Rope Sewing: Sewing Creative Baskets, Bowls, and Bags with Rope, Yarn, and a Sewing Machine

Rope sewing is a creative sewing technique in which cord or rope is laid in a spiral pattern and sewn together using a wide zigzag stitch. This creates unique bowls, baskets, coasters, and bags. Soft cotton cord works particularly well and can be sewn using a standard home sewing machine. For beginners, small, flat projects are ideal before moving on to sewing larger rope bowls, rope baskets, or rope bags.

Sample Sewing: How It Works and What You Need to Know

Test sewing is an exciting way to refine your sewing techniques and try out creative patterns. As part of a test team, you can help develop sewing instructions before they’re published. It’s not just about sewing—it’s also about providing technical feedback and improving the instructions. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced sewer, test sewing lets you try out new materials and make valuable connections in the sewing community. Find out how you can be part of this process!
