Bags and Seams Design is a Swiss sewing pattern brand specialising in bags and accessories. I create sewing patterns and courses with clear, detailed instructions that make sewing enjoyable and approachable — whether you’re taking your very first steps or you’ve already completed countless projects.
I never want you to find yourself sitting at your sewing machine wondering, “What am I supposed to do next?”
That’s why I put so much emphasis on clear explanations, easy-to-follow steps and thoroughly tested patterns.
I truly believe that anyone can make a great bag. All you need is the right instructions, a little confidence and some support when questions arise.
Hi, I’m Sarah, the founder of Bags and Seams Design. I am a mum, coach, cat lover, seamstress — and completely obsessed with making bags! I have always been a creative person, but sewing bags is by far my greatest passion. After many years of sewing, pattern testing, making and selling bags and children’s clothing, I started developing my own sewing patterns in 2022.
Today, those patterns have grown into detailed tutorials and courses designed to encourage, support and inspire you — and to show you just how much fun sewing your own bags can be.
My goal? Bags you’ll genuinely enjoy making and love using!
When I am not sewing, I enjoy spending time with my family, playing volleyball and exploring new cities.
Bags and Seams Design is a project that is very close to my heart, and I want that to come across in everything I do.

I am an ambivert.I did not even know that word existed until recently!
I am equally happy spending hours on my own in my sewing room, quietly pottering away, and being surrounded by people at concerts, workshops and events. Sewing somehow brings both sides of me together — and I love that.
Even as a child, I was featured in two creative books
Creativity was, so to speak, in my blood from the very beginning — so I was already “programmed” for it in my mother’s two books.
Sewing was never part of the plan
And then one day, I held my first handmade bag in my hands… The rest, as they say, is history.
That feeling — holding something you’ve made yourself — is exactly why I do what I do today. And I love being able to share the knowledge and experience I have built up over the years with you.
British humor, please—the drier, the better!
Laughing and having fun together is important to me. I developed a real love of dry British humour during the nearly six years I spent in England, when I regularly went to stand-up comedy shows. And I am very good at laughing at myself, too.
I am outgoing, but not shy
When we meet for the first time, there’s a good chance I will give you a hug and tell you my life story within the first few minutes. That is just me.
I know that can be a little much for some people, and as I have got older, I have learned to be a little more sensitive to that. Speaking in front of a camera, however, is a completely different story. It took me a very long time to get over my fear of it — and, to be honest, it is still not my favourite thing to do!
I am a total perfectionist
Sewing has taught me that sometimes you just have to let things go. Like that one slightly wonky seam on the pocket. Although “accept” might be putting it a little strongly… “Not losing too much sleep over it” is probably more accurate. But there’s one person who definitely benefits from my perfectionist tendencies: you! I put that attention to detail into every sewing pattern and every course I create.

Before a pattern is published, it is tested by a group of sewists with different levels of experience. This helps me make sure the instructions are clear and the pattern is easy to follow.
Thoroughly tested
I sew each pattern myself several times before publication, testing not only the construction process but also whether the finished bag is practical, durable and suitable for everyday use.
